St Mary’s – Capel-Y-Ffin

The Church of St Mary the Virgin at Capel-y-ffin dates from 1762 and stands on a site of medieval worship and pilgrimage.  It is said that a vision of the Virgin Mary appeared to a Norman lady in the field where the Church now stands.  At just 26 by 13 feet inside, it is one of the smallest Churches in Wales, originally serving as a Chapel-of-ease for the Church at Llanigon, it is now a Parish Church in its own right.

The Church is open for visitors and inside features a wooden gallery and ancient font.  Outside there are two headstones carved by the sculptor Eric Gill who lived nearby for some time.
